Who failed Arthur?

-

WHy has it happened again? It’s heartbreaking to hear the details of the life and death of six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.

After similar cases in the past, we were assured this would never happen again. It would appear concerns were raised to various services who could and should have protected this dear little boy.

His family and the public need answers. Those who could have prevented his suffering and death should hang their heads in shame.

I was a foster carer for 21 years and fear no one will be demoted or sacked. It’s about time those in positions of power were held personally responsible for what happens on their watch. If any organisation, company or government department is found wanting and deserves a large fine, it should be paid by the person who sanctioned the action (or failed to act), not the taxpayer.

Those in positions of influence are quick to accept praise and a big bonus when things go well, so they should also be held responsible when their decisions cause suffering. CAROLYN PROUDFOOT,

Leiston, Suffolk. I CAN only imagine the terrible suffering poor little Arthur endured at the hands of his cruel father and stepmother, despite concerned relatives repeatedly expressing their concerns to the authorities.

We have heard such stories time and again. Until social services employ older people with experience and common sense, who won’t be taken in so easily by the lies of devious parents, these tragic cases will continue to happen. Mrs ELIZABETH QUIN,

Bournemouth. THIS little one’s death haunts me. I am in tears whenever I think about his terrible life and the suffering he went through.

I am pleased there is to be an inquiry, but it will be too late for Arthur. god bless him.

Mrs M. LANGLEY, Coventry.
