Biden: Getting jabbed is your patriotic duty
Joe Biden told Americans last night that it was their ‘patriotic duty’ to be vaccinated and he warned the unjabbed that they were at far greater risk of dying.
In a White House address to the nation, President Biden said America’s 40million eligible but unvaccinated people ‘have an obligation to yourselves, your family … and your country’ to get the jab.
Mr Biden said that ‘we should all be concerned about omicron, but not panicked’ and he made clear his determination to stop it from ruining the economic recovery.
‘If you are not fully vaccinated, you have good reason to be concerned,’ he said last night of the spread of omicron. ‘The unvaccinated have a significantly higher risk of ending up in a hospital – or even dying. You’re at a high risk of getting sick. Almost everyone who has died from Covid-19 in the past many months has been unvaccinated.’
But Mr Biden said that the situation was far better than when the pandemic began and said again that he saw no need for lockdowns.
‘Two hundred million people are vaccinated. We’re prepared, we know more,’ he said. To combat the spread, he announced 500million free home tests, extra testing and vaccination sites, plus 1,000 army experts for hospitals that are struggling.
Mr Biden told the unvaccinated: ‘You’re putting other people at risk. Your choice can be the difference between life and death. Please get vaccinated. It’s the only responsible thing to do.’
He said that people who refused the vaccine had been influenced by ‘dangerous misinformation on cable TV and social media’.
on Monday Donald Trump was booed by Republican supporters in Dallas when he revealed that he had been given a booster jab.
