Tell footballers it is no jab, no game

- BARRY CHANDLER, Exeter, Devon.

HOW hypocritical for some Premier League clubs to seek a Christmas festive firebreak. Thank goodness the decision has been made by the 20 top clubs to fulfil the fixtures. If I want to attend a top-ranking football match, I must show proof of two vaccinations. But many players, whose wages are paid through fan contributions, are refusing to be vaccinated. The rules should be the same for all: if you haven’t had a jab, you can’t enter the ground and that applies to players, staff and spectators alike. If the clubs claim breach of contract and stop paying footballers if they are not available to play, watch how quickly they will get the jab. And fans who idolise these players will follow suit.

PAT DUGGAN, Hayes, Middlesex. WITHOUT paying fans, football clubs would cease to exist. Perhaps if supporters refused to attend matches until every player was jabbed, the clubs would insist on vaccination. Surely this is the right thing for clubs that claim to be at the heart of communities.

GARRY CARR, Yelland, Devon. FOOTBALLERS are resisting requests to get vaccinated and so a number of matches have been postponed due to the high number of players in a team having to self-isolate. Managers ought to demand they get vaccinated or lose their place in the team.

TONY GAMBLE, Norwich, Norfolk. BOSSES at the FA should hang their heads in shame. They should have issued a directive as soon as the Covid vaccines became available that all players must have the jab in order to be selected to play for their club or country. They failed to do so and look at the mess football is in. It’s time for the FA to show leadership.
