How can TV shows be made less irritating?

-

IN THIS era of technology, why can’t TV manufacturers invent a background noise off button so we can hear the dialogue? The mute button works perfectly for annoying presenters!

ANNE JEFFERY, Kendal, Cumbria. CAN someone invent a gadget that removes the F-word from TV programmes? The BBC series The Tourist is a compelling drama that is marred by quite unnecessary swear words. What do the TV producers think the continual use of the F-word adds to otherwise interesting dialogue?

D. WILLIAMS, Smethwick, W. Mids. I WAS looking forward to Sir David Attenborough’s The Green Planet, but have turned it off because of the loud background noise.

LIZ GUDGION, Southport, Merseyside.

WHY spoil a good TV show by playing the background music so loudly that you can’t hear what people are saying? Either reduce the volume or remove it altogether so we can follow the action.

WILLIAM KAMINSKI, Cambridge. I’D LOVE to have an off switch on my remote control for TV commentary. Watching darts, the remarks are often banal and state the obvious. Just hearing the sound of the crowd as if you were present at a sporting event would be so much more enjoyable.

KEN ROBERTS, Wellington, Somerset. WATCHING the snooker, I’m so glad I have a mute button on the TV remote control when John Virgo is commentating.

D. BARKER, Carlisle, Cumbria.

WHY doesn’t the BBC rename itself ‘the hour upon hour of sport’ channel? There were almost 15 hours of it on BBC1 on Saturday and BBC2 on Sunday, some of it overlapping. As for switching over, there was no chance of respite with three hours of rugby on Channel 4.

DEB DORRER, Sevenoaks, Kent. THIS week’s schedules for BBC1 and BBC2 feature 113 repeats. Is the licence fee worth it?

RON LARKIN, Wadhurst, E. Sussex. WHATEVER happened to TV news being neutral when reporting on politics? Too many presenters and correspondents are bossy and bullying when interviewing government ministers.

DENNIS FREEMAN, Birmingham.
