■ ARSENAL have made an improved offer for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. The Gunners proposed £34million plus add-ons for the Argentina international but Ajax are holding out for closer to £43m amid interest from Manchester United. However, United need to sell before they make any move for the 24-year-old. Arsenal are also hopeful of reaching an agreement with Leeds United for Raphinha as they look to strike a £50m deal. The clubs have a meeting scheduled for later this week.

■ EVERTON have dismissed the prospect of selling Anthony Gordon and Richarlison to Tottenham in a double deal. A deal for Richarlison involving Harry Winks could still develop.

■ MANCHESTER UNITED are inching towards the finishing line in their protracted pursuit of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and hope to have the transfer sealed this week.

■ NEWCASTLE are set to complete the £32m signing of Lille defender Sven Botman but are ready to move on from their pursuit of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. Botman arrived on Tyneside yesterday to complete his medical. A move for Ekitike is all but dead with sources blaming the ‘ridiculous’ demands of the 20-year-old’s agent. Chelsea’s Armando Broja, a West Ham target, is under consideration.

■ WEST HAM have confirmed the signing of Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year deal.

■ FULHAM aim to wrap up moves for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha this week. Talks are also continuing with Manchester United for Andreas Pereira. However, the Cottagers are reluctant to match Liverpool’s £15m valuation of full back Neco Williams, who is also a target for Nottingham Forest.
