MISSING . . . . . . AND FOUND

-

CAN an old school friend from the 1950s be found? ‘Michael Robert Revell and I attended Downsell Road School, Stratford, London,’ writes Janet Denny, nee Page, 75, of Hockley, Essex. ‘The last time I saw him was in 1968, just before I married.’ We are still looking for Michael, but one of Janet’s classmates, John Burgess, has made contact. ‘I knew Michael very well,’ he says. ‘When we left Downsell, we went to different secondary schools and lost touch. I heard a few years later that he had joined the Army.’ Janet remembers John and they are back in contact.

‘I’M TRYING to make contact with my old Army friend, Yorky Kellett,’ writes Peter Logan, 82, of Nelson, Lancashire. ‘I don’t remember his real first name as we always called him Yorky because he was from the West Yorkshire town of Keighley. We served together in Cyprus in 1959 and 1960. He was in the 15 Signals Regiment and I was a driver billeted with the regiment.

‘I had joined the Royal Corps of Signals in 1958 and arrived at Episkopi Garrison in Cyprus in April of 1959. There was a temporary ceasefire with the EOKA terrorist organisation led by General Georgios Grivas. I came home to Salford on leave in September 1960 to meet a young lady called Janet, who had been my pen friend for quite a while and later became my wife.

‘I never went back to Cyprus so lost touch with Yorky. ‘I served as a regular soldier for six years until 1964, followed by another six years with the Reserves. I worked in the upholstery trade and then as a truck driver, delivering stationery all over the country. ‘Janet and I moved to Todmorden in West Yorkshire in 1967, where I worked as a postman before returning to lorry driving.’
