Huge spike in WSL ticket sales
ENGLAND’S Euro 2022 glory has been followed up by a surge in ticket sales for Women’s Super League clubs, with high demand leading to websites crashing. Every club has reported a spike in sales, with some doubling season ticket sales.
As of yesterday morning, Arsenal had sold 7,000 more tickets for next month’s north London derby with Tottenham at the Emirates since England’s triumph. The volume of sales meant tickets were briefly unavailable, with the club having to quickly open up more parts of the stadium’s lower tier. Season tickets at Chelsea were sold out on Monday and there has been a significant rise in sales for the champions’ opener with West Ham at Stamford Bridge. The Hammers have also seen a 20 per cent increase in season ticket sales since Sunday.
Manchester City are at a record number for season-ticket sales and their first game against Arsenal has been selling fast. Liverpool have more than doubled their season pass sales since Sunday and Tottenham saw a spike after the semi-final win over Sweden. Some 4,000 tickets for Spurs’ opener against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have already been sold. Brighton have reported a
249 per cent increase in season ticket sales compared to this time last year. And Leicester saw a 248 per cent rise in sales from the Sunday before the final to the Monday after. England captain Leah Williamson made an impassioned plea after lifting the trophy, asking fans to buy tickets to WSL matches. FA director of women’s football Sue Campbell added: ‘I hope people come and they have understood the environment we create in the women’s game, which is safe, fun, celebration, but great sport,’ Campbell said. ‘I hope people don’t forget that and they realise you can see that every week at a Super League club.’
Fans have snapped up tickets for England’s World Cup qualifier next month against Luxembourg at Stoke’s bet365 Stadium with 20,000 already sold. England will return to Wembley on October 7 for a friendly with the USA, the world champions. The FA’s ticketing website crashed following the announcement while fans reported being in queues of more than 30,000. Tickets go on general sale this afternoon.
