Go-solo Scotland is fantasy, Nicola

- ALLAN HOLDEN, Clay Cross, Derbys.

aM I the only one who thinks Nicola Sturgeon is totally blind in her personal determination to bring independence to Scotland? Surely she must see the problems that would arise with border control and customs. has she not noted the problems across the Irish Sea?

Will the Scots be willing to change their currency? and what will happen if Scotland fails to achieve her goals of self-reliance. Will she go back cap-inhand to ask for a bailout? the First Minister needs to think again and put Scotland first, rather than being the cause of its downfall.

KARL SHERIDAN, Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor, East Riding. thE latest propaganda paper from the SNP describes Scotland as a stronger and fairer country, with gold-paved streets paid for by the evil oil companies that it will then close down. the SNP will keep the pound but later dump it in order to join the EU. there is no reference to the share of the national debt Scotland would have to assume, or to how it would meet the ever-increasing cost of Scottish benefits and pension payouts. It’s just a dream.

DENNIS FORBES GRATTAN, Aberdeen. NICOLa StURGEON needs a reality check. her aim is EU membership, so the Euro will be compulsory, as it is in principle for all new members. and the order from Brussels will be to enforce border controls and check passports.

aS PaRt of the UK, Scotland has MPs in the Commons, Scottish peers in the Lords and its own parliament. the UK Government has had Scottish Prime Ministers and Chancellors, exercising a great deal of influence.

If it quits this amicable arrangement and joins the EU, it will have to accept the Euro and European interest rates. all Scottish fish will become an EU resource, all EU laws will override all Scottish laws and it will have little say in anything, as there are few Scottish MEPs. the people of Scotland would lose all independence and freedom.

DEREK BENNETT, Walsall, W. Mids. NICOLa StURGEON will need a wall

the whole 96-mile length of the border if she’s serious about keeping us Scots from escaping — a bit like the old Berlin Wall, with towers for SNP machine guns and the Scottish Stasi on full alert. Just north of Berwick high Street would make an ideal ‘Checkpoint Charlie’, with the free world gazing north and counting how many Scots got through safely.

ROBERT VEITCH, Edinburgh. I BEt Nicola Sturgeon can’t believe her luck. Of all the people to assist in her quest for an independent Scotland, Liz truss steps up to the plate.
