Dragons’ Den star found dead at just 36

- By Rachel Muir

A DRAGON’S Den entrepreneur who secured a £50,000 investment for his candle business has died ‘peacefully at home’ at 36.

Drew Cockton, who had quit his highpressure corporate job to focus on his enterprise, impressed the Dragons on the BBC1 show last year with his honesty about his battles with bipolar disorder.

The success of his vegan candle brand Owen Drew soared after a £50,000 investment from Dragon Touker Suleyman, winning endorsements from socialite Paris Hilton and reality star Gemma Collins.

His mother said that she is ‘truly, utterly heartbroken’ to announce that her ‘gorgeous boy’ died peacefully at home yesterday.

In a post on Facebook Kate Drew wrote: ‘We are devastated beyond belief. Life is never, ever going to be the same again. Rest peacefully

darling boy.’ Friends and relatives described Mr Cockton as a ‘kind and caring person’ with a ‘heart of pure gold’.

The entrepreneur from Wirral, Merseyside, claimed to have created the world’s most expensive candle – at £750 – to celebrate Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018. It was set in 24 carat gold vessels.

Mr Cockton was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was 23. He told the Mail: ‘I was severely depressed, lost all my hair, had really bad anxiety and had shaky hands all the time. My mum could see I was really unwell so got me to see a GP who referred me to a psychiatrist, who diagnosed me with bipolar disorder.

‘I was a bit of a zombie at the time so didn’t really feel anything about the diagnosis; I was just existing and it’s all a bit of a blur.’
