WE MUST STOP THE BLEEDING, SAYS JESSE

-

were pegged back six minutes later by Fulham’s leading scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Goals from Bobby Decordova-Reid and Willian won it for Fulham before a late consolation from Crysencio Summerville. Marsch said: ‘If we were getting killed in matches we would have more worry that the direction is not good enough. But it’s not like that.

‘Every game is in the balance but we have found ways to give it away.

‘We know how special Elland Road is and we want to put performances together that have a 12th man factor. Even at 1-1, I felt the advantage of the crowd.

‘But then it goes against us and the frustration from everybody is strong. The way we started the game and the way the fans were was perfect. We have to use that as a weapon and I think we have played pretty well at home. But it’s painful today and I take responsibility.

‘I won’t throw anybody under the bus. I’m looking directly at myself. I’m trying to do my job in this club the best that I can and that’s to coach this team and make them better. I have to find ways to organise us and keep the confidence and belief high.

‘We need to know we are on the right path and stop the bleeding.’

Leeds only remained in the Premier League on the final day of last season and have won just three of their last 17 league games under Marsch.

Fulham, meanwhile, are on the opposite trajectory and this win pushed Marco Silva’s side up to seventh. Asked about the possibility of a challenge for the European places, Silva said: ‘Our position doesn’t change anything.

‘We lost against Newcastle and West Ham and were not panicking then. So we are not over the moon now. We know what we are doing and what we are fighting for. ‘But this is a great result and well deserved. It’s hard to come here and get the points. You can feel the extra man that is their crowd. They are really supportive and push the team forwards.

‘So to take three points away from home is a great step for us. I am delighted for the players.’
