I read a paper and I liked it! Katy Perry reveals love of print

SHE'S a global superstar with an estimated £295million fortune and can no doubt afford to indulge in all of life's extravagan­cies.

It seems, however, that Katy Perry still enjoys some of the simple, traditiona­l pleasures - having declared h er passion for reading newspapers.

The 38-year-old American pop singer revealed that ' one of her Favourite things' is to read a newspaper over breakfast.

And she hopes that print will never fade from popularity in the digital age because it is ' too romantic'.

Miss Perry, whose hits include I Kissed A Girl And I Liked It, shared

her thoughts with her 108million followers on Twitter on Wednesday.

The Grammy-winning per former wrote: ' One of my favourite sounds ever is the sound of a crisp new

newspaper being read over breakfast for an hour or so.

' The popping out of it, the folding, the scribbling on the crossword ... I

hope it never goes out of fashion in our digital world. It is too romantic.'

It is unclear which newspaper Miss Perry reads each morning.

Her tweet was liked by more than 28,000 people, in cluding former culture secretary Nadine Dorries who echoed her statement.

' I never grew up with this scenario at home - but the thought of one day

being able to be this person, who holds a newspaper in my hands and slowly turns each page whilst I eat toast and marmalade,' the Conservati­ve MP wrote.

And broadcaste­r Piers M organ, who was the editor of the Daily Mirror

between 1996 and 2004, wrote: ' Ditto! Well said, Ms Perry.'

The singer's tweet was used as a rallying cry by local papers in the United states to encourage more people to read them.

In an allusion to the title of one of her songs, the Dallas Morning News account wrote: ' We hope newspapers don't become the one that got away too, Katy. #supportloc­aljournali­sm.'

And the Kansas City star shared a video of someone reading its newspaper and completing the crossword alongside a cup of tea with Miss Pen'Y's tweet.

Miss Perry, who lives in California, is currently planning her wedding t.o British actor Orlando Bloom, 45, star of The Lord Of The Rings movies.

The pair, who have a two- year-old daughter, Daisy, have been together since 2016 and became engaged in Febmary 2019.

Speaking about the wedding, she recently told actress Drew Harrymore's American talk show: ' Ther e's still a plan but the location is challengin­g. I love a big celebratio­n. I am all about big, fun, exotic, great cele · brations. So, hopefully, soon.'

Should she find herself in her husbandto - be's home country, Miss Perry might like to settle down with a copy of the UK's top- selling national newspaper, the Daily Mail.

The most recent figures show aver · age sales in September were 842,119 a

day, and 1.36million for t he Saturday edition, while The Mail+ digital app

has over 89,000 active subscriber­s.
