ACTRESS natalie Wood was found drowned yesterday after a search by lifeguards in the waters around a romantic holiday island. The 43-year-old film star and her husband, actor Robert Wagner, had been staying on their yacht off Santa Catalina Island near Los Angeles. Her body was found floating 200 yards offshore.

DAvID nICHOLLS, 56. The self-described ‘awful’ actor gave up a career on the stage after realising: ‘I lacked not just talent and charisma, but the most basic of skills. FRAnk IFIELD, 85. The Coventry-born singer had four no 1s in the 1960s, including I Remember You, one of the first singles to sell a million copies in britain. As a child, Ifield led the local community singing in the bomb shelters during the blitz. In 2012, a rare album by The beatles and Ifield that was considered a flop after its 1964 release fetched £14,340 on ebay.

MInDY McCREADY (1975-2013). The u.S. country music star made her name with her debut album Ten Thousand Angels which went platinum, but became as well known for her private demons. McCready was convicted of prescripti­on drug fraud and was jailed for violating probation. She fatally shot herself a month after the father of her younger son had died the same way. G. GORDOn LIDDY (1930-2021). The u.S. lawyer and FbI agent instigated the Watergate burglary that brought about the downfall of President Richard nixon. He received the longest sentence of any of the conspirato­rs and after prison wrote a spy thriller, establishe­d a security consultanc­y, acted in Miami vice and became a talk show host.

IN 1999, british Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems merged to form bAE Systems — one of the world’s largest arms manufactur­ers. IN 2007, u.S. stuntman Evel knievel (pictured) died, aged 69, from pulmonary fibrosis.
