What did Keir Starmer know about Horizon?

-

FOR five years during the time of the horizon scandal, when the Post office was steamrolling the lives of sub- postmasters, the Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the crown Prosecution service was keir starmer.

The Post office may be a law unto itself, having by all accounts its own legal system, but I find it hard to believe the DPP knew nothing of what was happening. What did Mr starmer know?

VERONICA LOWE, Churchdown, Gloucs.

AFTER watching Mr Bates Vs The Post office on TV, I thought Mail readers might like to hear of my experience from 1980, almost 20 years before the horizon scandal began.

My wife and I bought a shop with a Post office in store. We employed my wife’s best friend to run it but, after about nine months, two men arrived to look at the accounts. They told us we were £3,000 short and asked to see all my bank accounts, but could see I didn’t have that kind of funds.

I was told to dismiss my wife’s friend straight away and give them a cheque for £3,000. It was terrible to tell the lady in question, as she would never have stolen from us. But they said, if you don’t dismiss her, we will close the Post office.

When we left a year later, the accounts showed £3,000 in credit. The Post office took the balance away and I never heard another word from them. I went back to my teaching post a poorer man.

Mr L. A. MILLERSHIP,

Bromsgrove, Worcs. IF YOU are appalled by the horizon Post office scandal, write to your MP, asking why full compensation has not yet been paid.

Let the victims at least be given a chance to restart their lives.

MERYL PARSONS,

Ellesmere, Salop.
