Call me Mx not Miss, says Crown star Emma

-

PRINCESS Diana went from being a Lady to a Princess, but Emma Corrin, who played her in The Crown, insists on an even rarer title.

I hear that the star has let it be known that Emma henceforth wants to be referred to as Mx Corrin rather than Miss or Ms, as some feminists used to prefer.

‘It’s part of a new identification of non-binary,’ a friend explains.

Mx was developed as an alternative to ‘ gendered’ honorifics such as Mr and Miss in the late 1970s and is said to be the most common gender-neutral title among people who identify as non-binary.

In a formal confirmation of Corrin’s wishes, Companies House published an update to the actor’s details this week.

It reported that the director of Playroom Pictures, the business used to channel Corrin’s earnings, is now Mx instead of Miss.

Corrin, 28, is going out with Rami Malek, the actor best known for playing Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and a baddie in James Bond film No Time To Die.

Corrin used a topless photo shoot in 2021 to come out as ‘non-binary’ and updated the gender profile on picture-sharing website Instagram to use the pronouns ‘ they/them’. ‘It’s all a journey, right,’ Corrin said. ‘Lots of twists and turns and change and that’s ok! Embrace it.’

Corrin follows in the footsteps of pop singers Sam Smith and Demi Lovato, who previously announced their pronouns had become ‘they’.

Corrin, who starred in Lady Chatterley’s Lover as well as winning a Golden Globe for the portrayal of Diana in Netflix’s royal drama, also spoke about wearing a chest binder.

Chest binding is common among people who want to give the appearance of a flatter chest. Corrin didn’t give a reason for choosing to wear one.
