Why don’t other nations act against Houthis?

-

AT THE time of Brexit, Remainer groups insisted the UK would be ‘just a little country off the coast of Europe’ if we left the EU.

If that is the case, why are the U.S. and UK spearheading action against the Houthi terrorists? Members of the EU bloc also need to prevent the disruption of shipping via the Suez Canal route. Where is their contribution?

ROB LEWIS, Lincoln. REGARDING the U.S. and UK action in the Red Sea, estimates vary but I understand the drones used by the Houthi rebels cost as little as £16,000 each, yet missiles fired from British naval vessels to shoot them down cost more than £1 million. Why don’t we buy similar drones to the Houthis and launch 100 of them at a time? roger i. shenton, huntington, n. yorks.

CAN we assume Britain will now stop giving Yemen £100 million a year in overseas aid?

BOB TERRY, margate, kent. THE Lib Dems wanted a discussion in Parliament before committing to air strikes against the Houthi terrorists targeting shipping in the Red Sea and, now, firing on Royal Navy vessels. Perhaps they would also like to have announced the timings, flight paths and targets of our aircraft deployed from Cyprus.

GORDON GEDLING, ashton-in-makerfield, Lancs. WHILE I agree we have to protect shipping in the Red Sea, what I fail to understand is why only the U.S. and UK are taking direct action. Why are France, Germany, Spain and Italy not involved? Surely they, like us, have a great deal to lose.

TREVOR BROWN, glossop, Derbys. HOW can we police the Red Sea but not the English Channel? PAUL RUANE, Cannington, somerset.
