Why the final delivery is drawing near for Royal Mail

-

FOR me, last Christmas was the nadir for Royal Mail. i sent my grandson a birthday card with £20 inside, using ‘track and trace’. it didn’t arrive. Royal Mail can track it to where it disappeared. My bank sent me a new debit card which didn’t arrive either, disappearing into the ether. lastly, I buy onion juice on eBay and use ‘click and collect’ to pick it up at a shop. in the past, i’ve had six courier deliveries without problems. this time the supplier had chosen to use Royal Mail. The package arrived soaking wet, in a clear Royal Mail bag. one plastic bottle inside had been broken, although they are robust and you would need a sledgehammer to break one. Royal Mail complaints refused to accept responsibility. From now on, I’ll be arranging personal delivery of my grandson’s birthday cards. I’ll collect debit cards from my bank branch and order from eBay using courier services. At work, we now send invoices by email attachment to all our customers. Those that accept this method get a discount. Royal Mail has only itself to blame. its well-deserved demise will occur within the next few years, i believe. to add insult to injury, a letter dated seven weeks ago, sent first class from two miles away, arrived as i was writing this letter.

ROYAL Mail hopes to stop deliveries on Saturdays, ‘to better serve the needs of the public’.

If that is its aim, it could start by delivering all post within a reasonable time-window. And when a customer has paid extra for Signed For or Guaranteed next Day, this should be honoured.

If anyone has paid for an important item to be delivered but it was ‘lost’ in the system, there is a Postal Review Panel that can be applied to. Post office customer services don’t like to publicise it but it exists.
