KATE Garraway returns to television today, three days after her husband’s funeral, for an emotional interview discussing his death and final months.

It is the first time the ITV presenter has spoken since losing Derek Draper, 56, to a cardiac arrest last month. His health had heavily deteriorated after he contracted Covid in 2020.

Ms Garraway, 56, will speak from her home via video link on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, before returning to host the show on Thursday with Ben Shephard.

A promotional video for the interview said: ‘Kate Garraway has shared the story for Derek over the last four years, highlighting the struggle faced by thousands. Tomorrow she returns to Good Morning Britain to talk for the first time since the death of her beloved husband.’

She took a break from her presenting role when Mr Draper was hospitalised in December. She is said to be under financial strain after spending almost £1million on medical bills.

Reportedly ‘keen to keep busy and get back to work’, Ms Garraway is hoping to return to her show on Smooth Radio too. During the interview, she will discuss Mr Draper’s funeral last week which saw Elton John reduce the congregation to tears with a performance of Skyline Pigeon.

Key Labour figures, including Sir Keir Starmer, attended the service in Primrose Hill, London. Former prime minister Tony Blair made a speech for his friend and former campaign advisor.

Mr Draper suffered longlasting illness after contracting Covid-19 in March 2020. He required daily care which Ms Garraway chronicled in two documentaries.

The mother- of- two revealed she held her husband’s hand as he took his last breath on January 3.
