THE Prince of Wales is set to return to public engagements after stepping back to take care of his wife and children after Kate was admitted to hospital.

William will undertake two tomorrow had ‘cleared his diary’ to support his family as Kate – discharged from hospital last Monday – recovered from planned abdominal surgery.

She was united with her children almost two weeks after her operation on January 16 at The London Clinic. The King received treatment for an enlarged prostate at the same hospital, and was discharged on the same day as Kate.

Exact details of the princess’s condition have not been revealed but the palace has said it is not cancer-related, and Kate wished her personal medical information to remain private.

The Princess of Wales, 42, is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter. William will hand out honours at the investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle tomorro before attending a fundraising gala for the London Air Ambulance, of which he is a patron, that evening, Kensington Palace said.

He last carried out a major royal event more than three weeks ago when he made former Leeds Rhinos team mates Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield each a CBE for raising funds and awareness for motor neurone disease.

Kate will be watched by royal doctors and also benefit from The London Clinic’s aftercare. NHS advice on recovering from abdominal surgery is that, after a major operation with a large incision, it takes two to three months to be able to move around comfortably. But this will be quicker if it was keyhole surgery.
