Moore the merrier as Ipswich maul Lions

SINCE Kieran McKenna took charge of Ipswich in 2021, things could hardly have gone better, as the Northern Irishman has transformed them from a middling League One side to Premier League hopefuls. But, after a run of one win in nine, plus an FA Cup defeat by non-league Maidstone, the Tractor Boys needed to send a statement that they are not going away in this enthralling Championship promotion battle. And they did just that thanks to a thumping 4-0 victory over Millwall with goals from Nathan Broadhead, on-loan striker Kieffer Moore, his third in three games since joining from Premier League Bournemouth, a Wes Harding own goal and a late penalty from Ali Al-Hamadi. Millwall are on a rotten run, having taken one point in six games, that has left them looking over their shoulders towards the bottom three. They had started brightly and forced Vaclav Hladky into a succession of saves, but as soon as Ipswich gained a foothold they dominated and had the game sewn up by half-time. Broadhead fired narrowly wide before he sent a brilliant header looping over Matija Sarkic from the exceptional Omari Hutchinson’s ball on 24 minutes. Millwall were stunned and Ipswich made it 2-0 soon after when Harding diverted a Broadhead Broadhea cross past Sarkic. The visvisitors looked a class above abov and Moore added a thi third on the stroke of half-time h as he headed in i Harry Clarke’s cross, causing an exodus among home faithful. Ipswich were able to cruise through the second period with AlHamadi netting a fourth fo goal in stoppage from the penalty spot to maintain maint the pressure on Leeds andan Southampton.
