A PRISON officer derailed a murder trial after she was paid by one of the defendants to report a false confession, a court has heard.

Wiktoria Bujko, 30, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice for reporting a made-up confession by one of three men awaiting trial for the murder of Iron Miah, who was shot dead on his doorstep. She was jailed for four years and eight months yesterday.

Mr Miah, 40, was shot in the head in east London in November 2019 and died in hospital two days later.

Mohammed Moshaer Ali, 31, of Dagenham, Antonio Afflick-McLeod, 32, of Ilford, and Aaron Campbell, 32, of Fulham, were found guilty of his murder at the conclusion of a third Old Bailey trial on January 9.

An earlier trial had to be aborted after Bujko, from Poland, came forward with a false account. She claimed she heard a conversation in the healthcare unit of HMP Belmarsh, south-east London, between Campbell and another prisoner in which it was suggested that he and Afflick-McLeod had planned to rob Ali on the day of Mr Miah’s murder.

Prosecutor Crispin Aylett KC said Ali had put Bujko up to creating an ‘entirely false account of a confession’ to use as an alibi. CCTV footage showed that Campbell had not been in the unit when the prison officer claimed to have witnessed the exchange.

Bujko said the other two defendants encountered Mr Miah when Ali sent him to a meeting in his place. The day after she gave the false statement to police, £500 was paid into Bujko’s bank account, the Old Bailey heard.

Prosecutors said she had also been promised a car, had been texting Ali while he was in

prison and the killer’s relatives had taken her out for meals.

In a message to a friend, Bujko said: ‘I got several things gifted from him, I’m not gonna lie. He’ll be out for Christmas.’

Bujko, who has a criminology degree, had known Ali since they met when he was first remanded at HMP Thameside. Afflick-McLeod was jailed for life with a minimum of 34 years. Campbell was given 31 years and Ali 36 years.

Bujko is likely to be deported back to Poland at the end of her sentence.
