Off with its head! William pours a rather dodgy pint

- By Liz Hull

HE may be the heir to the throne but when it comes to pulling pints he’s hardly bartending royalty.

The Prince of Wales took a turn serving up beer yesterday alongside US comedy star Rob McElhenney on a visit to Wrexham for St David’s Day.

William, 41, cracked jokes with the actor and co-owner of Wrexham AFC at The Turf pub next to the club’s Racecourse Ground.

After pouring a decidedly foamy pint of Madri lager, the prince said the ‘head on it is horrible’.

‘That might settle in a couple of hours, talk among yourselves,’ he quipped.

Landlord Wayne Jones, 41, admitted it was a pretty ‘terrible’ attempt but said they could ‘soon knock him into shape’ if he wanted to help out on match days, when the pub gets so busy that fans queue down the street to get in. William was later persuaded to down a shot of McElhenney’s whiskey, which the acotr created with the co-stars of his US sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The prince told the actor he was creating an ‘amazing culture’ at Wrexham after McElhenney and movie star Ryan Reynolds bought the club three years ago.

William said the pair had managed to ‘energise’ the city and, referring to Wrexham’s status as the third oldest professional football club in the world, added: ‘You picked one of the most historic teams.’

McElhenney, who jetted in from Los Angeles for the royal visit, replied: ‘We wanted to find a team and a town that had history, but also one that was full of people that we could identify with.

‘When I came here I recognised the people as being like people I grew up with, my dad came and said the same.’

The prince was later presented with a Wrexham shirt with his name on and joked that maybe he could convert a few fans to support his club Aston Villa.
