Meghan’s arrival was a ‘stick in the spokes’, says Kate’s uncle

He was said to have been warned by the princess’s mother about keeping royal secrets and opinions to himself – but it would appear Gary Goldsmith has failed at the first hurdle.

Kate Middleton’s uncle, 58, entered the Celebrity Big Brother House on Monday night, describing his niece and her husband William as ‘the saviour of the Royal Family’.

He was reportedly ‘ read the riot act’ by the Middletons before entering over fears that he could spill royal secrets.

Speaking to fellow contestant Louis Walsh in last night’s episode, Mr Goldsmith said: ‘ They call me the buncle! Have you heard of a buncle? Bad uncle, apparently every family has them.’

Kate is away from official royal engagements until April, after she underwent major surgery in January, but experts are concerned Mr Goldsmith will cause a ‘ headache’ for the royals amid speculation about her health.

During the episode, Walsh asked: ‘Is it difficult for you, being related to famous people?’

Mr Goldsmith replied: ‘I didn’t vote for it, it happened to me, suddenly there’s a spotlight on you.’

He opened up about his royal connections and also spoke out against Harry and Meghan.

‘It’s difficult to get hold of Kate at the best of times, and she’s got children and I love the fact that she’s putting family first,’ he said.

Asked about whether he had met Meghan Markle, he said: ‘So I have an opinion that Harry was really, really, really loved and when they were a threesome – so Kate, William and Harry – they got really comfortable together.

‘And then suddenly there’s an extra dynamic that comes in, puts a stick in the spokes and creates so much drama that I don’t genuinely think is there, and rewrites the history, saying they’re unhappy with us, and I just don’t think that’s fair.

‘You can’t throw your family under the bus in such a dramatic style then write books about it and expect to be invited round for Christmas.’

Asking his housemate Sharon Osbourne, 71, about the opinion of Harry and Meghan in the US, she said: ‘In the beginning, they were very, very well received.

‘They don’t understand it, but they do love it, you know?

‘But it’s dwindling, dwindling, dwindling and there’s been some deals that they have done that haven’t worked well.’

Mr Goldsmith reportedly tried to gain a spot on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here last year, but was turned down over concerns it could embarrass his niece.

The businessman, who made his money in recruitment and is reportedly worth £30million, is thought to have been kept at arm’s length by the Middletons in recent years.

This is despite him having attended William and Kate’s wedding in London in 2011 and then that of Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton to James Matthews in Berkshire six years later.

Mr Goldsmith regularly speaks out to support Kate, who is thought to call him ‘Uncle G’ and has previously hailed her as ‘the most spectacular person I have ever met’.
