Did Rishi reassure us with his speech?

-

IN HIS speech in Downing Street last Friday, Mr Sunak spoke about the threat posed by Islamist extremists. We are all aware of the attempts by Islamist mobs to threaten MPs and anyone who speaks out in support of Israel. Mr Sunak was telling us nothing new. What was a great surprise was his equating ‘far-Right groups’ with Islamists as extremist enemies of democracy.

Who are these far-Right groups? Will he name them and cite examples of their anti-democratic actions? If not, he should eat his words.

If he thinks that was a muscular response, he is even more vapid and fatuous than I had imagined.

DaviD Kelly, Broseley, Shropshire. WITH the rising threat from extreme Islamists, I don’t feel safe under Rishi Sunak’s leadership. I felt safer with Boris Johnson leading the country. Melanie GaDSDon, Woodford Green, essex. By ‘FAR-RIgHT’, does Rishi Sunak mean the millions of ordinary people in this country who are concerned about mass immigration?

D. Mclachlan, Peterborough, cambs. THE ‘speech Britain needed to hear’ (Mail)? No, it won’t pass muster.

What we want is Rishi to deliver the ‘action Britain needed to see’. Anything less is smoke and mirrors. colin DoMan, Weston Turville, Bucks. I WAS appalled by Rishi Sunak’s address, saying the streets are being hijacked by extremists — a direct reference to the gaza protests. The marches I have attended as a white, middle-aged woman included people from all walks of life united in their horror at the ongoing slaughter of a trapped population. The marches were overwhelmingly peaceful and the policing proportionate. Rather than inciting division, the government should be calling for a ceasefire.

anGela SMiTh, london e3. SUNAK just had to mention the far-Right. What far-Right? A couple of spotty kids with swastikas on their bedroom walls going ‘Heil Hitler’ is hardly Oswald Mosley territory, is it?

Terry coaTeS, Birmingham. AT LAST Rishi speaks out, as he ought to have done weeks ago. He might even have gained a few more votes.

n. neWTon, romford, essex. WELL said, Rishi. Keep it up and you will win over the doubting Thomases.

D. BarTleTT, north Ferriby, e. yorks.
