Ex-PC ‘ battered’ inspector after catching him having sex with his cop wife in Screwf ix car park

- By Liz Hull

AN ANGRY former constable attacked a police inspector after he caught him having sex with his policewoman wife on the back seat of a car, a court heard.

PC Stephanie Glynn and acting Inspector Andrew McLullich were naked from the waist down when they were confronted by her estranged husband, Gavin Harper.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Harper flung open a door, accused Mr McLullich, 42, of being a ‘cheating b*****d’ and shouted that he had him ‘on film sh*****g my wife,’ before punching and attacking his love rival with a torch.

The jury was told that Harper, 45, had followed the couple to the car park of a branch of DIY store Screwfix in Birkenhead, Wirral, after allegedly placing a tracking device underneath his wife’s car.

Ms Glynn, 40, said: ‘One thing led to another. We were kissing and started going further and we went into the back. To put it bluntly, we began having sex. We were both naked from the waist down.’

She said one of the rear doors of Mr McLullich’s Kia Sportage suddenly flung open and she saw her husband filming them on his mobile phone. ‘I thought, “Oh my god, what’s he doing here?” ’ Ms Glynn added. ‘[Then] he just started throwing punches right into Andy’s face.’

Ms Glynn said that she managed to get her leggings back on and separate the two men but Harper, who had a ‘very aggressive look on his face,’ then struck Mr McLullich at least twice on the head with a torch.

He was later taken to hospital and needed six stitches to two deep head wounds. Ms Glynn, who was in a relationship with Harper for six years before they married in 2018, added: ‘ He looked at me in what I can only describe as a deranged look and said, “Old Gav is back”. I was terrified.’

Harper, of Liscard, Wirral, is on trial accused of stalking and unlawful wounding between December 14, 2020, and February 17, 2021. He is also accused of hacking into her social media accounts to find out who she was with after they split.

Ryan Rothwell, prosecuting, said Ms Glynn told her husband in November 2020 that their twoyear marriage was over and she was leaving him. She moved out but Harper refused to accept their separation.

The pair had been fighting over custody of their dog, Maizie, shortly before the Screwfix attack on February 16, 2021, and Harper had told his wife ‘he’d kill the dog rather than let her have it,’ Mr Rothwell claimed. ‘[ Harper] resorted to jealously trying to figure out as much as he could about what she was doing. He bugged her car, put a tracker in it, took her phone and hacked into her social media.’

When Ms Glynn began a sexual relationship with Mr McLullich, who works for Merseyside Police, in early 2021, Harper ‘couldn’t let go,’ Mr Rothwell said. ‘He obsessed over it. He continued to track her whereabouts.’

Harper denies his actions amounted to stalking or was a pattern of ‘intrusive, unwanted, obsessive behaviour’, and claims he only wounded Mr McLullich in self-defence.

Yesterday his barrister, Suzanne Payne, said it was Harper who had been injured when Mr McLullich attacked him, not the other way around. She showed Ms Glynn photographs of Harper with injuries to his face which had apparently been taken in the hours after the confrontation.

But Ms Glynn denied they had been caused by the couple, adding: ‘I would suggest they are self-inflicted, because that is the sort of person he is.’

The case continues.
