Cara’s £5.5m heartbreak

Blaze destroys Hollywood mansion... but her cats survive

- By Dolly Busby and Molly Clayton

CARA Delevingne has been left distraught after fire ripped through her £5.5million Los Angeles home in the early hours yesterday.

But there was also relief for the British supermodel, 31, when she learned that her two beloved white Persian cats had been found alive.

Ms Delevingne is in the UK making her West End stage debut in Cabaret and was seen going into the theatre last night.

But fans feared the worst when she shared a photo of her cats on Instagram with the words: ‘My heart is broken today… I cannot believe it. Life can change in a blink of an eye.’

And indeed it did. In a later Instagram post she put up a picture of the cats with the caption: ‘They are alive!! Thank you to the firefighters.’

Thirteen fire engines with 97 crew tackled the blaze after a 911 call was made in the early hours.

It is believed the blaze started in a back room of the property and spread up to the attic, causing extensive damage and leaving one wing of it barely intact.

One person staying at the property had to be treated for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was injured after falling from a ladder.

The model- turned- actress bought the 8,000 sq ft mansion in Studio City, Hollywood, in 2019. She had previously shared a home nearby with her sister Poppy, which the pair sold to musician Usher for £2.6 million in September 2022.

Her current home, a 1941 white-brick residence, boasted Gucci wallpaper, with snake and leopard print carpets climbing the stairs.

It also features a bizarre ‘vagina tunnel’, which allows visitors to travel along a ‘rebirth canal’.

Other unconventional additions include an attic party room, complete with mirrored ceiling, tasselled swing, restraints and a pole.

Speaking to Architectural Digest in 2021, a house-proud Ms Delevingne said: ‘It’s kind of a journey. The deeper you go in, the more treasures you discover.

‘It’s the design equivalent of a jaw drop but it still feels like a home and there’s no mistaking whose house you’re in.’

The fire comes after a difficult year for Ms Delevingne, who is currently dating musician Leah Mason, who performs as Minke. The Suicide Squad actress opened up last year about facing her addiction problems after seeing a photo of herself behaving oddly after the Burning Man festival. She said: ‘I hadn’t slept, it was not OK. It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, “OK, I don’t look well”. You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way, those pictures were something to be grateful for.’ Ms Delevingne picked herself up and followed in the footsteps of Oscar-nominated Jessie Buckley to play Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club at the Playhouse Theatre. Fans were delighted after her debut appearance on Tuesday night, hailing her as the ‘ best Sally Bowles’ they had seen. She is billed for a 12-week run at the Playhouse but will reportedly miss 22 of the 96 performances with her understudy, Nic Myers, playing the role.
