Easter without the Christian message

-

I READ Quentin Letts’s article last week on Christianity, Easter and the lukewarm BBC, and rejoiced.

I totally agree with him, especially about the C of E hierarchy’s lack of proper Christian teachings. He is quite right to say we need to hear what the Bible teaches us, rather than politicised statements.

It is a shame Archbishop Welby (or his office) no longer listens to what parishioners tell him.

Mrs G. HIELDS, lowton, lancs. I AM not a Christian, in fact I was born Jewish, although I do not follow any faith. But having been brought up in a Christian country, I firmly believe that what is severely lacking is a belief in what this great country stands for. We have too many competing faiths and the BBC wants to please all of them. Let us try to stick to the messages that Easter brings us all.

IVAN Green, chigwell, essex. I APPLAUD every sentiment Quentin Letts expressed. Our country, while making room for all other religions and cultures, is slowly sinking into an amoral bog, where our own beliefs are ignored in the name of diversity.

Mrs Alison lee, Fiskerton, lincs. I AGREE wholeheartedly with Quentin Letts and hope people at the half-hearted BBC read his article.

S. HURLEY, Exeter, Devon.

QUENTIN Letts’s piece last week uplifted me in these dark times. Christians in this country have been completely let down by church leaders at a time when we desperately need our faith to sustain us. I am not a churchgoer but the

Christian Faith is my moral compass, so I plead with the clergy to abandon trendy political tropes and start doing what they are appointed to do: promoting the Word of God.

STEVE FORSHAW, Kettering, northants.

WE WERE all told about Ramadan, fine, but can the BBC remember that Christians have important days, too? Those who should be vocal on our behalf (archbishops, I mean you) are strangely quiet. MARY HAGUE, hornchurch, essex. TRUE to the Faith. Quentin Letts for Archbishop of Canterbury.

JOHN JEFFERY, Bickley, Kent.
