SPENCER Matthews once hid under the bed at a Caribbean hotel after he feared bodyguards of Colonel Gaddafi’s playboy son were going to kill him following a row over a girl in a nightclub, he has revealed.

Reality TV star Matthews told how, as a teenager, he was petrified as the security guards came banging on his door at his parents’ £14,000 per night hotel on St Barts.

Matthews, who is now 36 and best known for his appearances on Made in Chelsea, was speaking on the Mail’s Everything I Know About Me podcast.

He said he had been on a date at the Feeling nightspot when Mutassim Gaddafi approached

‘It wasn’t a good date’

him and the woman, named Sophie, and told her she would be sleeping with him that night. Matthews claims he spoke up for the woman and shortly afterwards a group of bodyguards came after him and he was forced to flee back to the Eden Rock hotel.

He said: ‘This guy came up to me and was just incredibly rude… it was along the lines of “you are going to spend the night in bed with me tonight” to Sophie, in front me.

‘I had a mouth on me and my levels of confidence certainly weren’t depleted at the time, I was pretty rude to him back and we had this argument over it and he disappeared off.

‘I couldn’t believe what this guy has just said, and out of the corner of my eye I see him and these three or four security guards tearing through the crowd, coming our way.

‘So I grabbed her hand and ran to the back… out of the club into the car. These guys ran out and stood in front of the gate. I’m thinking I need to get out of the car park, or there is a good chance I might get really hurt here.’

Matthews recalled: ‘Adrenaline takes over. I drove at them, they jumped out of the way at the last minute. They were banging on the car.’ However, the gang chased them back to the hotel where Matthews and Sophie, terrified, hid under his bed.

They bodyguards banged on guests’ doors in pursuit of Matthews – whose father David and mother Jane own the hotel.

Matthews added: ‘I can hear clients shouting and screaming. So we get under the bed. I was thinking if I open this door they might kill me. We stayed under the bed, everything calmed down.

‘She wasn’t happy, it wasn’t a good date.’

Mutassim, fourth son of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, was shot dead by rebels and his body defiled during the fall of his father’s regime in 2011.
