Should we continue to arm Israel?

-

BORIS JOHNSON’S piece in last Saturday’s Mail about arms sales to Israel should be compulsory reading for the wavering wets who seem intent on giving succour to Hamas and other terrorist groups. However, the conflict in Palestine is not just about different political ideologies; it is fundamentally about religious ideologies. The terrorists who perpetrated the atrocities that provoked Israel’s implacable reaction were not shouting ‘Free Palestine’ as they murdered civilians, they were shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’. Much is said about the need for a two-state solution but this would be at best a temporary fix. It would not stop the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah wanting to wipe Israel off the map. Their primary purpose is the spread of militant Islamic fundamentalism.

name and address supplied. The world is calling for a ceasefire, but that would mean Israel staying vulnerable to further attacks. No nation would tolerate that. Israel did not start this war but must end it so her citizens may live in peace in their own land once more. The world should call instead for Hamas to surrender and free all hostages. dr ELIZABETH STEWART,

I HAVE always admired Boris Johnson but in regard to selling arms to Israel, I believe he is wrong. Like many people, he has not taken account of how Israel has treated Palestine in the past. For far too long, the Israelis have been playing the Holocaust card. Not only that but for over half a century they have been building settlements on land that belongs to Palestine. Every one of those settlements has been deemed illegal by the toothless UN, yet Israel turns a blind eye.

Had this not happened, Hamas might never have been formed.
