Boy, 8, killed by car as he played tag in cul-de-sac
THE mother of an eightyearold boy killed after being hit by a car while playing tag paid tribute to her ‘bubbly and kind’ son last night.
The schoolboy, who was named yesterday as Lennix, had been playing with friends on a quiet Wiltshire cul- de- sac when he was struck down on Saturday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after an off-duty police officer and his own grandfather attempted to give him CPR.
Lennix’s mother, Jackie Meredith, told the Mail: ‘He was bubbly and kind, loved by everybody. He had so many wonderful friends. He had his birthday two weeks ago and had his whole life ahead of him.’
His grandfather Nigel Sutcliffe was returning after going shopping when he heard screams that a boy had been knocked over on Woodland View in Dilton Marsh. The warehouse worker, who has had first aid training, attempted to revive the youngster with CPR.
Mr Sutcliffe, who was been diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and been receiving chemotherapy, added: ‘I’m broken over it. My little shining star has gone.’
Lennix had been a pupil at Dilton Marsh primary school, close to the street where he grew up with his six- yearold brother.
Stephen Bosson, whose grandchildren were also playing in the cul-de-sac, said: ‘The children came running in saying a boy was under a car.
‘We’re shaken as a community. The children are confused

and can’t understand why he’s not going to be in school on Monday.’
Police said a man in his 30s is being interviewed.
Yesterday afternoon, photographs of Lennix, flowers and cards were placed on a fence on Woodland View.
A message from his mother and father read: ‘ Fly high superstar. Love you always mummy and daddy.’
Emergency services were called out to the crash at 4.30pm on Saturday.
