How was no one killed?

Shoppers run for lives after London gunman opens fire

- By Eirian Jane Prosser

TERRIFIED families f ili were forced to hide in shops on a London street after a gunman opened fire.

The shooting, part of an ongoing fight between two gangs, happened some 300 metres from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 8pm.

CCTV footage shows a blue VW Golf stopping on Park Lane in front of Ricardo Anderson, who pulls a gun from his waistband and starts firing at the vehicle.

Those in the car tried to shoot back but their gun jammed as onlookers with children ran for cover. The car sped off while Anderson left the scene on foot.

Police said it was ‘sheer luck’ no one was killed during the shocking incident on May 27 last year. Anderson, d 21, was yesterday convicted of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, as well as attempted grievous bodily harm.

The Old Bailey heard how CCTV footage from a shop allowed detectives to identify Anderson, who will be sentenced on May 22.

The car was found to have been stolen, but the occupants were not identified. Detective Constable Rhiain John said: ‘Terrified onlookers including children sought refuge in shops and scrambled for safety behind parked cars. Anderson had absolutely no concern for them at all.’

It marks another instalment of ‘Lawless London’ under mayor Sadiq Khan. From March 2016 – two months before he was elected – to September 2023, recorded crime in the capital increased by 18 per cent, according to the Office for National Statistics.
