Face of man whose torso was found in the woods

- By Richard Marsden

A MURDER victim whose remains were found at four sites a few miles apart was last night revealed to have lived with the men accused of killing him.

Police yesterday identified Stuart Everett as the man who was horrifically dismembered with parts of his body left at locations around Greater Manchester.

The 67-year-old was living in a rented semi- detached house address in Winton, north of Eccles, the same address given in court yesterday by Michal Jaroslaw Polchowski, 68, and Marcin Majerkiewicz, 42.

The three men appear to have associated for a number of years, having all been listed as living together at another property in Cheetham Hill.

Polchowski and Majerkiewicz, believed to be Polish, were charged with murder of a ‘ person unknown’ but now named as Mr Everett.

Greater Manchester Police yesterday issued Mr Everett’s name and photograph but gave no family statement or biographical information. The force said specially-trained officers were providing support to his family.

Although the pensioner had lived at the house he shared with Polchowski and Majerkiewicz for several years – and was on the electoral roll – neighbours said they thought the property was empty. One said: ‘They never caused any problems around here. I thought there was nobody living in the house.’

Police are believed to have been at the property since last Thursday when the suspects were arrested. Forensic officers were still at the house yesterday with silver evidence boxes piled up in the front garden.

A small alley down the road from the house has also been sealed off after the discovery of human remains on Monday.

The first of the grim discoveries happened on April 4, when a passer-by found a torso wrapped in plastic in woodland at Kersal Dale, Salford. Last Saturday, a dog walker uncovered a package with more body parts at Linnyshaw Colliery Woods, in Walkden, while further remains were found at Blackleach Reservoir.

The sites are no more than seven miles apart.

At least two more locations have been searched: a warehouse in Bury and woodland at Blackleach Country Park.

Polchowski and Majerkiewicz appeared at Manchester Crown Court yesterday where they were remanded in custody.

Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Jackson said: ‘We have had large numbers of officers, staff and specialists working diligently on this investigation.

‘ We have specially trained officers deployed to support the family as they come to terms with this tragic news.’
