Pictured, gran stabbed to death at the bus stop
A GRANDMOTHER stabbed to death on a busy London street by a bag thief has been named.
Anita Mukhey, 66, an NHS medical secretary, was killed while standing at a bus stop on Thursday. Horrified locals described seeing ‘a lot of blood’ after she was allegedly attacked for trying to resist being robbed.
Although the first paramedic arrived within two minutes, Mrs Mukhey was declared dead at the scene in Burnt Oak Broadway, Edgware, north London. Jalal Debella, 22, of Colindale, north-west London, appeared in court on Saturday charged with her murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
An invitation to a memorial service for Mrs Mukhey held yesterday told of the community’s ‘deep regret’ at her death.
She left behind a husband, Hari, daughter, Laila, son, Dev, and two grandchildren.
In a statement released through the Met Police, relatives described her as ‘devoted to her family’.
A family friend told The Mirror: ‘It’s an absolute tragedy. We’re turning into a lawless society... They are such lovely children and a peaceful family, they never said a bad word to anybody.’
Jess Bloom, 24, who was working at a hair salon opposite the bus stop, told the Mail: ‘A guy was trying to get her handbag but she said no and fought back. I saw her pull the handbag twice. He pulled her into the road and stabbed her three times.’
No pleas were entered during Debella’s appearance at Willesden Magistrates’ Court in north-west London on Saturday. He was remanded in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey tomorrow.
