Vitreous body

-

The vitreous body takes up most of the eye and gives the eye its shape. It’s a clear, gel-like substance which occupies the space behind the lens and in front of the retina at the back of the eye. As the eye must process visual data, this liquid must be clear enough for light to easily pass through it. It consists of water, collagen, salt and sugar. It’s a stagnant fluid that’s not served by any blood vessels and isn’t actively replenished.
