Tragic boy’s organs kept by hospital
A GRIEVING dad has spoken of his horror at discovering his dead son’s organs have been found in a hospital lab. Police told Philip Ashleymanners that parts of fouryear-old Leon’s organs were found at South Tyneside District Hospital during an audit. In all, 39 families were told human samples had been discovered. Leon, a “happy, bright boy”, died in his sleep of a heart defect in 1999. Philip, 48, said there was no reason to remove parts of his son’s brain, lungs, heart and kidneys. He said: “We’ve been to hell and back and it is really hard to deal with. There is a lot of anger and shock, it is not right.” The hospital did not comment yesterday.
