Car is smashed into house then set on fire
Arsonists condemned over ‘highly dangerous’ attack
There is very little regard for safety or indeed for human life STEWART DICKINSON CO ANTRIM YESTERDAY
A CAR has been destroyed and a house extensively damaged following a suspected arson attack yesterday. It is understood the vehicle was driven into the home – which was empty at the time – and set alight which then ignited the building on the Killyglen Road in Larne, Co Antrim. Two men aged 34 and 24 have been arrested and are in custody helping police with their enquiries. Alliance MLA for the area Stewart Dickson hit out at those behind the suspected arson attack. He said: “It’s a bright, sunny afternoon and children could be kicking football in the street and someone comes along and sets fire to car. “It’s totally, utterly, unacceptable behaviour and there is very little regard for safety or indeed for human life. “You have no idea what will happen once you set fire to something and the wind, the atmosphere, the proximity of the vehicle to a building or whatever all of those things are highly dangerous and this is ultimately playing with people’s lives.” The police say the vehicle used in the incident was stolen. Det Sgt Colin Gray added: “Shortly before 4.45pm we received reports that the silver Peugeot had been set on fire and abandoned outside the property.”
