Restaurant flush with new loos that wash & blow-dry

- BY JILLY BEATTIE

A NEW super-loo is leaving restaurant customers flushed with delight.

Three Japanese Toto toilets have been installed in House of Zen at central Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. Costing £4,000 each, they offer a new experience for the discerning loo user. A moment of contemplation includes a wash and blow-dry. With the touch of a button, a series of cleansing jets of water, aimed just perfectly for men and women, will wash away all your troubles. And then a calming stream of warm air on the derriere will leave users knowing they’ve just had the perfect on-the-pot experience. The total price of perfection for Eddie Fung and Kit Chu from House of Zen, was around £20,000. This included purchase of the Toto toilets from the company’s headquarters on the island of Kyushu in the southwest of Japan. The lavatories then had to be transported to Belfast, installed, tested and, of course, christened. But now they are all ready to go. Kit said: “They’re the first of their kind in a restaurant in Northern Ireland and we are delighted to introduce guests to this new loo experience. “But they are common in Japan and other parts of the Far East where bathroom cleanliness is paramount. “Different traditions are fun to introduce in Northern Ireland and we wanted to let people check this one out. “When we serve our food we offer chop sticks for people to use but we also offer Western cutlery. “And now we are encouraging our guests to use our Toto loos in the traditional manner – but of course we will always supply loo roll too.” Rachael Ferguson added: “I love Japanese toilets. They seem crazy but once you use them on a regular basis you appreciate the ingenuity.”
