Joel looks for Mour game time

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

JOEL PEREIRA aims to become Manchester United’s No.1 keeper after keeping a clean sheet on his full debut. Jose Mourinho has high hopes for Pereira and used United’s final Premier League game against Crystal Palace to blood him. United’s Portuguese boss gave his compatriot a debut against Wigan in the FA Cup in January and the 20-year-old says his target is to play every week. “That’s what I want to do most and I will work hard for it,” he said. “I need to be patient. I am a young goalkeeper at one of the top clubs in the world, but my goal is to be the No.1 of United. “Hopefully I will get there and I will make sure I do that by working hard. “I’m happy with the performance from all the squad and the young boys as well. A win at Old Trafford is always special. “It was great, a clean sheet, a good start and hopefully the first of many. “It’s always good to get compliments from a manager, especially Jose Mourinho, and it’s great to pay him back.” Pereira, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Belenenses in his homeland, could move up United’s goalkeeping pecking order if Real Madrid lure David De Gea back to Spain. Sergio Romero will start the Europa League Final against Ajax in Stockholm tomorrow and Pereira thanked both keepers for helping him. “We have two worldclass goalkeepers, two great people and good friends also,” he said. “They always try to help me and to have them as teachers is great. They make sure I improve all the time and get better each day. They told me to be confident, to enjoy it and just be myself.”
