SMART homes are no longer science fiction – and three-quarters of us think we will all have one within 20 years. One in four are already future-proofing their properties with the latest technology such as remote heating and lighting controls, research shows. And a top 20 wishlist has found how we want our homes to evolve further. Chores were a popular target, with self-cleaning toilets on the that list. We hoped for a fridge that reorders food and a bed which gradually wakes you up. Self-locking doors and scales that test your BMI also featured. The Smart Home Week study found a third of people expected features to be controlled by one hub via a smartphone. Smart Home Week’s Nigel Fisher said: “It’s clear people are looking for ways to make their lives easier.”
