FERNANDO ALONSO claims that win or lose, his Indy 500 experience has been “fantastic”. The former double F1 world champion (below) is missing this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix to compete in the 500-mile race at the Brickyard. The Spaniard, 35, qualified fifth, but says: “It’s a race you cannot plan, so I don’t have any plans or clear expectations. “So far we’ve been quite competitive – even fighting for the first row of the grid in qualifying – so I would like to remain that competitive in the race. “The race will put you in the position you deserve, so let’s see what happens. The whole event has been a fantastic experience. I want to enjoy the moment.”
