MINDING TO MISS ASCOT
INJURY has ruled Aidan O’brien’s dual Classic heroine Minding out until the autumn. The four-year-old, who numbers victories in last year’s 1,000 Guineas and Oaks among her seven top-level successes, had been as short as 1-3 to rack up an eighth Group 1 triumph in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh tomorrow. But Minding (above) will miss the 10-furlong event — and the rest of the summer — after suffering a setback. “It’s nothing too serious and Aidan expects Minding to be back later in the year, but it does mean she won’t be running in the Tattersalls Gold Cup or at Royal Ascot,” Coolmore’s Kevin Buckley said yesterday. WILLIAM BUICK is free to ride in next Saturday’s Derby after a five-day ban received at York was reduced by a BHA disciplinary panel, enabling the 28-year-old to postpone the suspension.
