A DOG owner has told how he feared he had lost his pet forever – only to find him stuck down a badger hole four days later.

Thomas Crowe took Jack Russells Fudge and Spot for a walk in Clare Glen, Co Armagh, last Wednesday. But when the dogs ran after a squirrel that was the last their owner saw of them until Sunday morning. Spot was found wandering around the glen but Fudge was only discovered when his whimpers were heard and a fireman and passerby had to spend two hours digging him out of the ground. Thomas, from nearby Tandragee, said there was no sign of the dogs when he searched for them after they raced off and he waited for more than an hour in the car. He added: “I had to go home but me and my wife kept coming back and looking for them. We even got posters done up with a picture of them and our phone number. “We were going back and forward to Clare Glen looking for them but there was nothing and I was starting to get worried. “They have run off before but they always came back in the end.” Thomas said eventually they got a phone call from a man who had seen one of the posters and found Spot. However, Fudge was still missing. But when they started looking again they heard a murmuring sound coming from beneath undergrowth and realised it must be Fudge. Thomas added: “You should have seen the look of him when he came out. I reckon Spot maybe got out of the hole earlier. He’s grand now, though, and I’d say the same boy would run off after squirrels again.”
