Murray threatens STRIKE over TV gear, swears at himself and his team.. but recovers to set up Del Potro clash
ANDY MURRAY threatened to go on a bizarre sit-down protest before standing up to be counted in another topsy-turvy match in Paris. The world No.1 shouted at himself and his team throughout his 6-7 6-2 6-2 7-6 win over hard-hitting Slovak Martin Klizan. TV commentators had to apologise for Murray’s language and he even told umpire Emmanuel Joseph he was going to stage a demo in the first-set tie-break because of the movement of a courtside camera. The Wimbledon champion (disputing a decision, above) said: “I don’t like it when the Spidercam is in my ball toss. It puts me off and I asked a few times today – and it kept coming back. “I just said, ‘If it’s there in my ball toss again, I’m going to sit down and wait for it to move because I don’t feel I should have to be asking for it every change of ends to not be there’. It’s a simple thing to change.” With his power-hitting and maddening drop shots, left-hander Klizan is a frustrating player to face. And Murray showed his annoyance. Next up is Juan Martin del Potro, who is a real challenge with the Scot still not on top form. But Murray added: “I definitely feel I’m capable of winning that match. It seems everyone thinks I didn’t play particularly well today, but there was some good stuff against a tough opponent.” Former world No.1 Jim Courier claimed Kyle Edmund can become a top-10 player after the Yorkshireman reached the third round. Edmund beat Renzo Olivo – the Argentine who knocked out Jowilfried Tsonga – 7-5 6-3 6-1. He said: “It’s nice to hear someone like Jim say that, but it’s down to me to do that and put the work in.”
