Tropic blast might heat up summer
Highs of 28C forecast for this week
AFTER a shaky start, summer is finally here with temperatures to rocket over the next few days.
Warm tropical air from the Azores in the mid-atlantic will push the mercury up to 28C in the South with highs of around 20C in the North. The Met Office predicted it would be 6C warmer than average for June. Forecaster Emma Salter said: “High pressure builds from France from Tuesday. “We will be back into the mid 20Cs with 27C or 28C possible towards the end of the week. It is going to feel very warm and perhaps hot in places as air comes in from the tropics – around the Azores – with lots of sunshine around.” She added: “The highest temperatures will be around the South and South East with Central England also faring quite well. “The North, although cooler, is not looking too bad, and here temperatures could reach around 20C.” It comes after a mixed start to summer with hot weather followed by a cool spell and storms. Sunshine and blue skies returned at the weekend, pushing thermometers towards the 25C mark on Saturday. But the heatwave may be bad news for hay fever sufferers. Very high pollen counts are forecast across much of the country by the end of the week. Hot weather makes us 50% less likely to help others, scientists say. The study suggests we have evolved to be more selfish and save energy in excess heat.
