A TEENAGER died of a dairy allergy after eating a kebab while out shopping with a friend, an inquest heard. Chloe Gilbert, 15, had no idea the takeaway contained yoghurt. She suffered anaphylactic shock, despite passers-by using her Epipen to try to save her. The teenager died two hours later in hospital. She was in Bath city centre with the friend when they stopped for lunch. Chloe ordered a kebab with lettuce, chips and barbecue sauce. But the hearing in Bristol was told she was also unknowingly exposed to yoghurt, which she was highly allergic to. Chloe, of Melksham, Wilts, began shaking and then collapsed in the street. Paramedics performed CPR and rushed her to Royal United Hospital, where she died. Assistant coroner Dr Peter Harrowing said: “This is a tragic case for someone so young suffering from such a severe allergy.” Chloe’s family thanked shop workers, passers-by and the emergency services who tried to save her. They added in a statement: “Our dear Chloe, a true Angel, is loved and so dearly missed by all friends and family.” Verdict: Accidental death caused by anaphylactic shock.
