Santa is a success
SANTA MONICA recorded the biggest success of her career, finishing out her race well under Billy Lee to win the Group 3 Muster Oaks at Cork yesterday for Charles O’brien. She prevailed by a neck over Butterflies and, earlier in the day, Leigh Roche, above, and Darren Bunyan won the Listed Midsummer Sprint Stakes with Hit The Bid. Sent off a 20/1 shot, the winner found plenty to beat Go Cart and Bunyan said: “I think he’s definitely a Group 2 horse when things go right for him.” Oisin Orr won the Cork Derby on Moonmeister, who overcame a 232 day absence to oblige for Tony Martin who suggested the six-year -old will mix it between hurdles and the flat for the summer. Pat Smullen and Dermot Weld were in double form courtesy of India Rain and Harrana.
