CURIOUS CREATURES BBC2, 6.30pm

Can a tiger’s roar be heard as far away as two miles? Is a shrimp’s heart in its tail? Is the tongue of a blue whale heavier than a black rhino? These are just some of the fascinating questions thrown out in this new wildlife-themed quiz show hosted by Kate Humble. Set up a bit like QI, Kate quizzes two teams – captained by Chris Packham and Lucy Cooke – who are then free to showcase their expert knowledge of all creatures great and small. The fact that it’s a competition – to win random body parts of a mysterious animal – is incidental. If they correctly identify the body parts of their Curious Creature, they win. But no one really cares about the winning. It’s more about the deluge of extraordinary animal facts, natural history clips and spirited debate involved. In the first episode, Chris and Lucy are joined by fellow wildlife presenters Iolo Williams and Lizzie Daly to tackle rounds such as Yay or Neigh? and Is it Bigger Than a Chicken?
