Scarlett fever
HOST THE WEEK
FROM the moment Scarlett Moffatt called someone a waste of a teabag (best insult ever?), branded Madonna’s Brits fall as Cape Fear and wondered why N couldn’t just take over from Bond’s dying M – we knew.
We knew that one day Scarlett, 26, who epitomises the genius of Gogglebox, would be given her own chat show. And while she’s not quite there yet (come on producers?), she is making big strides. She has already been the queen of the I’m A Celeb jungle, hosted Saturday Takeaway with Ant & Dec, presented the revival of Streetmate, and provided laughs backstage at the National Television Awards. Now she takes on the task of being first presenter of this new topical entertainment show, hosted by a different celebrity every week. After the unmitigated disaster that was ITV’S The Nightly Show, C4 producers (and Scarlett) will be well aware of the pressure to give this the best start possible. And there is extra stress. Scarlett won’t have a rehearsal, or script, or any idea of what’s coming next. Filmed before a live audience, she will face challenges including acting in sketches, delivering a comedy monologue, presenting a game show and co-hosting a satirical news programme as well as her own chat show. She’ll have help in the shape of director Tom Parry from awardwinning sketch group Pappy’s. If she survives, it will all be great training for when Scarlett finally gets her own permanent chat show sofa.
