MUD, SWEAT AND CHEERS

and electro dominate the rest of the bill.

For such a huge festival, there’s not a great deal happens outside of the actual music. Which is a shame.

Longitude always boasts a forward-thinking bill as one of the few festivals featuring new – or new-ish acts high up the bill. a ‘challenging’ line-up of acts.

A ‘BUMP’ Roller Disco is promised which sounds rather fun.

Well, you’ll not get a collection of acts like that anywhere else….

An impressive selection of headliners includes Ash (pictured above), German electro legend Ulrich Schnauss, Irish folk hero Sharon Shannon and a selection of outstanding local acts including Ciaran Lavery, Jealous of the Birds and Ed Sheeran’s mate Ryan Mcmullan.

The festival incorporates art instillations, film, poetry, workshops and family fun to create a colourful, Glastonbury style ‘anything goes’ line-up.

It’s all beautifully laid out, making the most of some gorgeous surroundings. One of the stages is literally in the woods amongst the trees.

Three day event with multiple stages, mini-festival areas and camping. Sold out.

By Electric Picnic’s own high standards the line up for 2017 does seem a little flat. The main headliners are The XX, Duran Duran and A Tribe Called Quest – with Chaka Khan, Run the Jewels and Madness a little further down the bill. That said, hundreds of acts play over the three days so you’re certain to find a lot to love.

Everything you could ever hope for – comedy, theatre, food workshops, crafts, installations and a whole special hippy paradise called Body & Soul that’s sort of separate to the main festival. Outside of the music, the offering is genuinely remarkable.

Despite the poor-ish line up, for me Electric Picnic remains the best festival in the world – and I’ve been to quite a few! Everything you want, everything you need.

Two day event with two stages and no camping. The pick of the live music is on Saturday with tickets £30.

London five piece Eliza and the Bear headliner – but the locals stand out with Girls Names (pictured below) and The Emerald Armada both outstanding live acts. Brand New Friend are definitely the ones-to-watch on the bill and Ryan Vail will go down a storm on the second stage.

Friday night seems dedicated to theatre, with a take on Macbeth. There’s also a solid emphasis on local food – craft ciders and the like.

Only in it’s second year, Moira Calling is definitely the new kid on the block and still developing – but the village location and the opportunity to get out of the city (but not too far out) will be fun.
