Twilight killer on tape: I stabbed my girlfriend’s mum in neck while she slept
Teen’s confession to cops on TV
TEENAGE Twilight killer Lucas Markham will be heard for the first time tonight admitting butchering his girlfriend’s mum as she slept. In a taped interview with police Markham – just 14 at the time – calmly describes how he knifed Elizabeth Edwards as she lay on her side in bed. He is heard telling officers: “I went into her mum’s room and stabbed her in the neck while she was asleep and smothered her face with a pillow.” And in the confession, to be screened on TV this evening, he then callously adds that he went on to kill Elizabeth’s younger daughter Katie “pretty much” just to stop her alerting the police. Markham is currently serving life for the double murder which horrified all Britain and shocked even hardened detectives in April last year. His girlfriend Kim Edwards, Elizabeth’s elder daughter, was also sentenced to life for the crimes in Spalding, Lincs. The pair, the UK’S youngest double murderers, were dubbed the Twilight killers because they watched a vampire film together after the atrocity. They also took a bath to wash the blood off themselves and had sex. The plot was hatched because Kim, also 14 at the time, was jealous of Elizabeth’s attention to Katie, 13. And Markham resented Elizabeth’s efforts to end their relationship. In Channel 5 documentary Murdered By My Daughter, Markham is heard describing in an undramatic voice how he first killed Elizabeth, 49. He then adds: “After I knew she had gone, I went into Katie’s room and I thought I stabbed her, but I’m not a hundred per cent sure if it was her or the mattress and then I smothered her face with a pillow too.” He then admits he and Kim had mutually agreed to kill the victims, whose bodies were found two days later. The officer who led the investigation, Det Supt Martin Holvey, tells Channel 5 that neither teenager showed any remorse and that their confessions were “just like they’re telling a story”. Mr Holvey adds: “You recount the story to your team and everyone sits there, hardened detectives, and thinks, I can’t believe what you’re hearing. “Over 30 years as a cop, you look at this case and there’s nothing that rivals it. A really brutal, chilling, cold and callous act that was carried out by these two children on two defenceless victims.” Elizabeth’s trucker boyfriend Graham Green tells the TV documentary he considers Kim “another Myra Hindley”. He says: “She’s trying to put herself on the map. How would you go about planning to kill your mother and sister? How can you plan that?” Earlier this month the Court of Appeal reduced the minimum time the pair must spend behind bars and upheld an order that they could be identified. Murdered By My Daughter is on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm.
