U2 fans shared their delight on social media, with several shocked at Bono’s out-of-the blue revelation.

One posted on Twitter: “We’re at the encore.

“Still gobsmacked that Bono announced Adam & Mariana are expecting a baby during the show.”

Another said: “Bono did the ‘sexy man’ bit with Adam and said Mariana is here and then said they’re expecting. ‘Can I say that?’” And one excited fan added: “Adam is expecting a baby?! Bono announced during TTYW! #U2thejoshuatree2017”

Clayton reportedly already has one other child – a son who was born in 2010 to his then partner, according to an article written the following year.

However, little else is known about the youngster.

Meanwhile, Bono thanked Britain for “looking after the Irish” as U2 performed to a packed Twickenham.

He hailed London as the “capital of the world” as the rockers played the latest gig in The Joshua Tree tour, celebrating the album of the same name released 30 years ago.

Bono said the band were “boys” when they first came to the city and he went on to reflect on Irish immigrants coming to Britain.

As green, white and orange lights illuminated the stage, he described the scene as a “subliminal message from the motherland”.

Bono added: “We came to this great Great Britain and we thank you for looking after the Irish.” And he expressed gratitude for the “safety” and “sanctuary” given, adding: “We hope that won’t stop.”

U2 played for more than two hours and performed all the songs from the classic album including With Or Without You and Where The Streets Have No Name, before belting out more recent hits such as Vertigo and Beautiful Day.

Released in March 1987, The Joshua Tree was drawn from the band’s relationship with the US and it beat Prince’s Sign O’ The Times to the best
